I want to model for future climate impact for RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 for the species I am modelling so I had this doubt,
first i modelled my species with current 19 climatic variables and RCP4.5 19 variables as projection layer - now I have one model with current and future suitability map
Now, i want to model for RCP8.5 - here do i run the maxent again with current climatic variables and RCP8.5 projection layer? Or is there a way to re-use the first model

Incase, the only way is to run it again then it means I have two slightly different models and then i report accuracy for both the models separately?

hi suzu, when doing projection, u can actually incorporate 2 projection folder for rcp4.5 and rcp8.5. im following the latest tutorial of maxent. jar, they put commas to select another folder of projection environmnt. so in the projection file should look like this
D:/maxent/2050/Rcp45, Rcp85
If im nt mistaken, thats how they put it, if not commas try use ;
Hope it works for u. if not juz run as usual.

Hi Fira,
Thank you for your quick response. I tried it but it doesn't work.

hi suzu,
Actually u need to type in, not selecting the folder by browsing the folder so it shud be type in like this for example
D:\Maxent\Rcp262050, Rcp452050
u can select the first folder by browse, then by placing comma and the next folder just type the folder name. it will run the output to the same folder u set for the output with the suffix of the folder name.

Hi Fira,
Thank you again for clear explanation however, I tried it and again it gives me the same error of "layer bio1 not found in RCP45". But, I have all the layers with exact same name, extensions, crs,etc for all three folders so it cannot be the problem of layers. So, I dont know what else can i do.
Thank you
Regards

have u double check the layer's name? even capital letter is sensitive. usually this kind of error caused when the maxent cant detect the same layer name. juz double check the layer name thoroughly if in ascii make sure all the file component's name the same with the present layer you used.

Hi Fira,
Thank you again for your response and yes indeed maxent is sensitive to layers naming when projecting so I have done all those check and recheck alot of times so it is definitely not the problems with my layers. May be you can send me the link to tutorial that you are following for my kind of work where you found that using two subfolders with coma works. Probably, i missed a step but it is not my layers because if i run it individually - which i have- it works just fine.
Thank you
Best regards

Suzu,

Sorry for the late reply. You should train your model only once on the present data and then make projections to other times or places with that model. You shouldn't have to build another model to make another projection, but if you use the same background data, the model should be exactly the same (it's deterministic -- the stochastic element is the background sample). I hope you were able to do this with the GUI, but an operation like this is straightforward using R, and following a vignette like dismo or ENMeval should show you how to upload your data and build models, etc.

Hi suzu, got it good question.
I hope you repeat the same step as you did for rcp4.5.
Good time!

Dear Suzu

In the projection layers copy the full path of each future scenario and make a coma then space after each path. Also do not use same path nor similar names for each scenario as maxent sometimes confuses them.

For example:
C:\Users\Documents\RCP85_2050, C:\Users\Downloads\R85_2070

It should work this way. Best
