Christmas / New Year 2024 Explorations

The Christmas /New Year update is now almost complete and online. The bulk of the explorations occurred in the Trident Passages, Cueva Hoyuca (Uzueka) where Simon Cornhill and Diane Arthurs surveyed 3.2km of passage, mostly resurvey but including over 1km of new routes. The length of the Four Valleys System is now 4m short of 74km.

There are photos online in the Hoyuca (#0107) description showing some of the magnificent Trident passages and formations. Still to complete is a video in Trident Passages containing some stunning shots and an updated survey of this section of the system.

Matienzo explorers in the 1980's will remember long, tiring trips into the Trident Passages at the far end of Cueva Hoyuca (Uzueka). The passages were re-visited at Christmas 2023 through the Torca la Decepción entrance in Matienzo and the first ever photos and videos were taken there by Diane Arthurs and Simon Cornhill. Pick word combinations from large / gypsum / walking / passage / stunning and you have an idea of the passage quality. A half-hour video, well worth watching!
