to Matienzo Caves
Matienzo cavers will be saddened to learn of the death of Helen Sergeant, wife to Jim Davis and mother to the "tres niños", Benjamin, William and Samuel. She passed away shortly after the end of the summer expedition on August 25th.
Helen was a well-known and respected member of the University of Leeds SA and the Red Rose CPC. Prior to Matienzo she engaged with several caving expeditions to Greece, Mallorca, Yugoslavia, Asturias and Guyana. Her first visit with Jim to Matienzo was in 1977 and by 1988 all three children were being shown the delights of Matienzo caves. Apart from being good company, it has to be said that, although Helen did some caving, her other significant contribution to Matienzo caving was looking after Jim and the three boys - no mean feat on the old, muddy, drippy campsite!
Her last visit was in the summer of 1999, although Jim and Sam have been regular, recent participants in the expeditions.
Helen's funeral is at Horton Church, 3pm, 11th September.
