History Cambridge, where I am a board member and collections volunteer, is reducing its textiles holdings. We have several interesting objects with little or no provenance that we would love to see transferred to another institution.
The first are these charming embroidered suspenders in great condition.
The second is this handmade sewing kit, which has several sections.
The third is a bit different. These pieces of a wool embroidered waistcoat came with an attribution that the owner participated in Shay’s Rebellion. Our friends at Old Sturbridge Village have agreed that they seem to be from the right time period. They are just the front pieces and moth-eaten so would be challenging to exhibit.
We know that every institution is short on space, but if you are actively adding to your textile collection, please contact me directly. We have more items in storage!
