The Imperiled Frosted Elfin Butterfly - Conservation Science to the Rescue!

Sierra Club Greater Hartford is hosting an in person and zoom presentation on Wednesday, September 9th at 7:30pm (more below).

The Frosted Elfin Butterfly is rare and isolated to a small number of locations in Connecticut. In fact, it is being considered for listing as an Endangered Species. Fortunately, researchers at the University of Connecticut have been studying this fascinating species to understand its population size, habitat requirements, and methods for its protection. Come hear from an expert, who is leading those conservation science efforts, and learn more about the importance of this work and the prospects for protection of the Frosted Elfin and other species in these rare habitats.

Our speaker is Charlotte Brennan, a master's student in the Department of Natural Resources & the Environment at the University of Connecticut studying the habitat, distribution, and movement of the Frosted Elfin butterfly in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, Wildlife Division. She is also a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's Butterfly & Moth Specialist Group and the author of the Frosted Elfin global Red List assessment.
