Despite a huge pollinator-friendly garden that includes one butterfly bush (Buddleia) that butterflies usually cover, I have noticed no butterflies in my yard the past few days. Of course I'm not always home, and we've had overcast periods, but it's still unusual.
At Oxbow NWR in Harvard for a couple of hours on 8/20 we found:
1 Cabbage White
2 Pearl Crescent
1 Red-spotted Purple
1 Least Skipper
1 Zabulon Skipper
Today 8/21 at Quabbin Gate 44, hardwick, which has large open roadsides and wetlands holding goldenrod, boneset, black-eyed Susan, lots of Persicaria sp., and more, we found:
2 Gray Hairstreak
1 Zabulon Skipper
Wendy Howes & Ala nrawle
