I went to Horn Pond Mountain today for about an hour, starting at noon. Sunny with some breeze, about 60 degrees.
No butterflies, and very little flying. A few flies, and I heard but did not see any birds.
On my last visit last year, I saw workers with herbicide and quads; this year, I noted an empty spot near the beginning of the trail from the rehab complex where last year I reliably saw skippers and other butterflies. Also, a lot of tire tracks, probably from bikes with some fairly wide-treaded tracks, possibly from ebikes. Otherwise, things looked about the same.
I hoped but didn't actually expect to see any Mourning Cloak or Cabbage White butterflies. Nothing green yet (except for the evergreens). Will probably go back the next warm, sunny day.
