Hi, all, after several days of fruitlessly jiggling red cedars around
the Island, I finally found some Juniper Hairstreaks (4) at the Land
Bank's Farm Pond Preserve in Oak Bluffs -- my first of the year. A
bonus was a nice look at the Purple Gallinule that has been hanging
out in a small pond there.

Like the rest of eastern Mass., we've had a gratifying influx of
migrant birds -- plus some migrant butterflies -- the last couple of days.

Hi all,
Not a butterfly report... but Matts email reminded me that years ago my wife
and I were birding in FL, and we called over a British couple to show them a
purple gallinule we had spotted. After seeing it the womam exclaimed "Why thats
nothing but a bloody moorhen!" To each his own I guess.

Thanks for the hairstreak sighting, Junipers are one of my favorites. Post a
picture if you can.
