Dear Members and Friends of Marble Stage,

I really felt it necessary to contact all of you and relay a few facts about something that I hope is extremely important to all of us.  That is the future of Marble Stage Theatre.  I recently was talking with Greg and finding out some disturbing pieces of news.  The first item pertains to the Saturday productions of Fairy Tale Theatre.  Very few people have contacted him about performing and/or working in the April and May productions.  Also, many times, Greg has done most, if not all, of the setup work for performances.  My question to him was "where is everybody?"   We had a large number of you involved in "Bye, Bye, Birdie" and I would like to think that those participants were the basis of the membership for all aspects of upcoming productions.

I guess that the bottom line is this:  I feel that unless things change abruptly pertaining to the commitment of the members to the group and EVERYTHING that goes on with it, the group may go under.  I don't know about any of you, but I would hate to see that.  Greg has put so much of himself into providing a good, enjoyable theater experience for all of us.  Unfortunately, a theater group is only successful if it has an active membership of committed individuals.  By the way, he has no idea that I'm sending this and would probably be upset with me if he did.

We have a full membership meeting coming up this Saturday on March 14th.  Please do everything in your power to be there.  This applies also to those of you who are not members but would like to join and participate in some way in the upcoming productions.  There is so much going on right now that needs the full help and support of the members.  We are already in rehearsal for "Nunsense A-Men" which is opening in August.  Elections are coming up.  Auditions for "Oklahoma!" (complete hopefully with an orchestra) are coming up.  That is not a small show!  Also, our Saturday shows are a wonderful way to get word about us out to the public.  We need participation and help with those.  We also need the members to spread the word about the Saturday shows and attend performances.  If everyone in Marble Stage does at least a little something in all activities, it will keep us going.  Also, we constantly need to enlarge our membership if we are to keep presenting the types of shows you would all like to do.  We have a lot of different areas and schools in St. Louis represented in Marble Stage.  Quite often when Greg and I talk, I mention about a group that I directed many years ago that was very similar to Marble Stage.  We did two major musicals a year for 18 years!  We only represented one city in Illinois, and  I never had less than 50 people in a production and that is counting a full orchestra, tech crew, backstage, house crew, etc.  Many members were people who never set a foot on a stage, but they wanted to be a part of the production in some way.  Surely we can do better than that with numbers.  A lot depends on present members encouraging other people to join up and talking up our productions.

I realize that this has probably gotten too long and I'm beginning to ramble, but I felt it was necessary.  Marble Stage is important to all of us (I hope!)  Please think about what I have said and try very hard to be at the meeting and support the group through your participation and commitment in any way that you can.  You are all important and necessary to the organization.  Feel free to contact me if you have any thoughts or questions.  Hope to see you on the 14th.

Sincerely,

Brad C. Hofeditz
