Manistee County Democrats!

We hope you all have had the opportunity to enjoy the pleasant summer weather here on the shore of Lake Michigan.  We are so proud that Manistee's First Street Beach was named the Best Lake Beach in all of the country by the USA Today newspaper!  Unlike many others, you won't have to spend a ton of money for gasoline to enjoy our own slice of paradise at the beach this summer!  We are so lucky to be able to enjoy the brilliant white sugar sand and the clear blue water of our own great Lake Michigan. If you need another reason to ask questions of the candidates from both parties who are seeking your votes in November, our beautiful beach is one big reason! We must all continue our work to hold our elected officials accountable to make good decisions to protect our environment today and well into the future.

On Monday, June 8th at 6:30pm in the West Shore Community College building on River Street in downtown Manistee join Manistee Indivisible at their regular monthly meeting.  They will be making final plans for celebrating America with flags, family, friends, fun and frisbee golf on Sunday, June 14!  All are welcome to join in starting at 1pm at the Lighthouse Park Frisbee Golf Course on Cherry Street in Manistee.  Frisbee golf discs will be provided, or you can bring your own. The only requirement is to have fun and enjoy the day with other activists who care about our country and our freedom. This will be a great way to have fun while peacefully and effectively protesting the chaos, corruption and cruelty in both Washington and Lansing! Come out and make some new friends.

On Saturday, June 13 at 10am the Michigan Democratic Party Second Congressional District Committee (MI2CD) will be holding their quarterly in-person meeting at the Chase Township Hall on US10 in Lake County. Clyde Welford, candidate for US House, will be the featured speaker.  Clyde is a retired educator and is currently serving as a Lake County Commissioner.  He has been working hard to earn the trust and respect of voters throughout the twenty rural counties that make up this district. We will also be holding an Ice Cream Social fundraiser and silent auction at this meeting to raise funds to support our 2026 candidate for US House. If you cannot join us in person, please use this ZOOM link:
If you would like to make a donation to the MI2CD to support the candidate that will need your help to defeat incumbent John Moolenaar in November, you can use this link: Michigan Second Congressional District Democratic Party - Federal — Donate via ActBlue

Nominations for the 2026 Don and Marge Jennings Award are now open.  If you know someone who has worked tirelessly to improve social justice for all residents in Manistee County, please nominate them for this prestigious award.  You can access the nomination form using this link:
Nominations will close on July 11, 2026.  The award dinner will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Manistee National Golf Resort.

We really appreciate the donations that have rolled in to the GoFundMe site and the MCDP PO Box to help pay for the two billboards that will go up on US31 in Manistee from July 1 through October 31.  You will be proud to see these messages as you drive by. We have collected almost $4000 so far from over 40 donations!  Here is the GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/c392c2c2f
If you prefer to donate by check, you can mail it to MCDP Billboards POBox 65 Manistee, MI 49660.
