The Smith Creek Greenway is now entirely paved (asphalt) all the way from the Burlington Mills trailhead to its terminus about 0.8 miles later at the bridge that crosses the Neuse River. The trailhead is on the southeast side of Burlington Mills Rd where it crosses over Smith Creek. There is a more modest access within the bordering Caddell Woods subdivision.
The bridge at the south end of the Smith Creek Greenway acts as a connector to the Neuse River Greenway. Plenty of bikers, runners, and walkers were out there this morning. Thanks to the Smith Creek connector, folks in Wake Forest and Rolesville can readily access the ever lengthening Neuse River Greenway without having to seek out trailheads on the west side of Capitol Blvd (US 1).
I suspect there is a similar connecting bridge/access now or soon to be in play for those folks in the Knightdale community as well.
These greenways are for the most part flat, but, if you head north to the dam you can readily access the more rugged Falls Lake Trail. Getting there via bike instead of car might offer some cross training benefits.
