The Mangum Track Club gained 12 new members yesterday. There were a
total of 33 people who came out to accompany the new members for a
total of 45 people. It was a bit warm out there but otherwise a very
pleasant day.

We had the distinct honor and privilege to run with Ivan Castro of
Fayetteville, NC. Ivan is a blind runner who was assisted by Fred
Dummar. Ivan lost his eyesight in Iraq less than two years.
Sometimes we forget the sacrifices our soldiers make for this country
and for us. Let us all be thankful for the people who make sure we
still have the freedom to run and live as we do. I witnessed in Ivan
yesterday the insurmountable desire to succeed, and live despite the
odds.

Ivan, Fred and all of our military, I for one, thank you from the
bottom of my heart for what you have done and continue to do for
America.

The new members are:

Angie Delbrugge – Wadesboro, NC
Bill Shires – Charlotte, NC
Chad Evans – Albemarle, NC
Dana Burleson – Albemarle, NC
Ivan Castro – Fayetteville, NC
Jeff Epps – Raeford, NC
Jessica Keller – Fayetteville, NC
Mark Davis – Chapel Hill, NC
Nathan Ward – Raleigh, NC
Pete Herron – Albemarle, NC
Samantha Smith – Albemarle, NC
Steven Lilly – Winston-Salem, NC

For those of you that met Ivan - AP picked up his story.
Here is one URL to the full article (or just go to AP and search the
