See below and attached for the April Nutrition Cluster Bulletin which focuses on emergency situation with DoDMA.  

Nice to see the “multi mix principle” and IHF seeming to take hold in some areas. We continually change the names of the programmes to try to find ways for people to improve behaviour, and governments to improve systems, but the basic principles have remained the same over the ages.

We need
- biodiversity nearby in our environment,
and 
- biodiversity in our mouths to feed ourselves, and 
- biodiversity back into the soil to feed the soil, so
- biodiversity can be nearby in our environment, etc.!

How is your area of work doing on M&E to have a measure of how far we’ve gone on this?

Let’s hope we finally get the majority of people succeeding sooner than later!

Please find attached the April 2022 nutrition bulletin, below are the key highlights:

 

•                     Overall, there was a 49% increase in admissions of children with severe wasting from 3,953 in March 2021 to 5,904 in March 2022 nationwide

•                     Chikwawa district had the greatest increase in SAM admissions with over 60% (from 599 in March 2021 to 959 in March 2022)

•                     Approaches such as Community Complementary Feeding and Learning Session (CCFLS) and Integrated Homestead Farming (IHF) are helping to strengthen skills of households in the production, processing and utilization of diversified foods

Nice to hear from you Hannock, what a lovely update.  DNHA will update us soon I’m sure.  I’m excited to hear about what the 10 Afikepo districts have managed to achieve and share lessons with us.

Dear Stacia,

My apologies for such a long delayed response... I hope you are doing fine.

You have linked up while my tour of duty is at the end. But I am leaving just when the M&E system in ten districts supported by Afikepo Nutrition Programme has started recording data on some nutrition interventions. May be you will have time to follow with DNHA how this is proceeding, and whether they need further support to sustain it and extend to the rest of the district's in the country.

I hope this helps and also hope we may cross paths again soon. I need to update my knowledge on permaculture...
