Very ready and committed!

You’ve hit key points:  Systems, Strategy, Thinking big, Leveraging resources so that each and every one of us does our part.

We have to be coordinated to collaborate.  Let’s be uber coordinated!

Dear All

Thank you all of you for your support and active participation in the national nutrition response. It is very much clear to all of us that, 2020 was year we won’t forget. It was filled with uncertainties politically, socially, economically and ultimately health wise. It was  unusual, tiring and very onerous year for everyone but we all made it.

As every other year, at the start of 2020 we had ambitions with set targets without anticipating that our plans would face numerous challenges and that most of our ideas would need to be re-engineered. With Covid-19 all of us had to re-think and re-design our approach to make sure that we are safe, the country is safe and delivery of nutrition programmes is not suffocated too. Throughout the year we all had to learn new ways of doing things and find innovative solutions to overcome the many unforeseen obstacles caused by COVID-19 and other social factors which affected implementation of our nutrition progammes. These had added further complexity to an already complicated set of existing challenges.

Challenges will always be there for us to learn and do things differently what is important is to deal will such thing together. I am really proud of this team we have re-shaped and  build our nutrition landscape lets applaud ourselves for our effort. The achievements made in our country on matters of nutrition is a manifestation of profound commitment from each one of you. It is very clear and  undisputable that Malawi has one of the strongest nutrition programmes and let’s together continue to build our nation and create an environment that provide for our children to grow and thrive as productive citizens of which nutrition is key.

Yes we have done well in many areas, it is also clear that we have challenges such as district nutrition budgets, capacity to deliver nutrition interventions at community level, donor driven programming the list is endless. In the midst of such challenges lets work together to leverage the limited resources and make full use of it to make an impact.

Let’s improve our systems (enabling environment ). We have learn a lot over the years all we need in to think in a much more pragmatic way such that we don’t go 10 steps backwards.

Let’s embrace strategic opinions that are aimed at building our nation. We have adequate capacity from all of you and if changing our nutrition space can’t happen then probably we will have to start examining our brain. This is a generation with highly qualified nutritionists than ever and bring the change we need is a matter of behaviour change, commitment and mindset. The change we need should start with “us" no-one can come and tell you how to run your house/home, you know and we know what is good for us, excuses we not move us to another level.

Let’s start thinking beyond basics, let’s think big if nutrition in Malawi is to impact. Basic thinking will hinder our progress and we will remain to be at the mercy of the strongest. Have you wondered why in nature in nature any specie that is over hunted, soon or later nature takes care of the predator because it offset the balance.

We need a year the leverage resources, help[ build systems and a year of serving our nation. We can’t keep looking at our leaders to bring solution yet we have the solutions to the challenges we have, together we can make it. We have one Malawi and lets work hard to support our country and change the way we do things. Let’s not just leave things only to our leaders we all have to take part for the good of Malawi.

Just to reminding ourselves, we are getting to SUN 3.0 which is more energizing and country driven. We have already started our work to renew our efforts. Global initiatives are always good since they provide an insight on how we are doing things and what else can be done. However, it’s not one size fit all, as a country we need to build on what we have done before we don’t need to start re-inverting our dreams. There are so many things we are all proud of ranging from institionalisation of coordinating office, human capacity in all sectors including districts, well-structured nutrition implementation mechanisms among others. As we move together lets isolate what is ideal for us, objectively identify gaps and build our nutrition response based on evidence, let’s do business unusual. DNHA together with sectors will be  organizing more dialogues with all of you through PAT. NNC, Networks, and other platforms to ensure that no-one is left behind on SUN 3.0.

Looking forward for amore energizing, collaborative and effective 2021, I see a year of success and together we will make it. With this let me wish all of you a happy new year.
