I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas about what makes
someone a good teacher when it comes to learning about magic, and
finding someone who can help you improve skills and gifts that you have?

The same things that make a person a good piano teacher.

Just use your common sense and forget the ones who promise (or claim)
"great powers".

The number one thing that will affect your learning is yourself.
Study, and actually DO the work and you will be fine.

start with the basics. if they don't make you start at the beginning,
and assess what you already know..i'd be suspicious.

If they don't practice what they preach, split.

if they aren't at least relatively happy, watch out for them. Magick
and the great work "improves" health and happiness, so be on the look
out for that.

Great teachers promise nothing and tell you it's your responsibility to
find what your capable of.

A really great teacher puts no stock in what they've done and only care
about what they can help you do.

Look for respect, trust, and someone who keeps thier word.

And above all, humility.
