[MV Chess Club]

Hello Mission Viejo Chess Players,

I hope you are all having a great summer or a successful start to the new school year. Here are a few updates on the upcoming activities for our club.

Formal In-Person Meetings at the Senior Center

The Fall session (September, October, and November) will begin on September 14. Moving forward, we will be meeting on the first Monday of the month instead of Tuesdays. Because the first Monday in September is a holiday, our first meeting is postponed by one week.

The registration fee is still $5 for the three-month session, which helps cover room usage, advertising, and equipment like chess sets. Please take a moment to register using the link below:

Here is the schedule for our formal fall meetings:

  - Monday, 9/14/26 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Hibiscus A&B   - Lessons for beginners, puzzles, and free play. 

  - Monday, 10/05/26 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Jacaranda A     - Lessons for beginners, puzzles, and free play.

  - Monday, 11/02/26 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Sycamore B    - Tournament for those interested or free play. 

Online Tournaments and Challenges

If you have not already joined the MV Chess Club on Chess.com, please take a moment to do so. Membership is free and allows you to participate in our online tournaments and challenges against other clubs.  Just search for our club and send a request to join!

Here are the results from last week's event - Congratulations to Greg, Leah, and Dave for their podium finishes! And to everyone else who showed up! Great job. 

Help for the Club

We all should give a huge thank you to some of our members who've recently helped set up some of our in-person and online events. This includes: Alyssa, Lucas, Leah, and Carlos. And Dave for giving lessons to beginners (and advanced players). And thanks to Cole and Yoko for the wonderful food they provided for our last meeting.   If you'd like to set up a casual get-together in a park, a pizza place, or online, just let me know, and I'll help you get it going. Just send out the notice and show up. Pretty easy. 

Okay, that's it for now. I'll be on vacation starting next week and will return after Labor Day, so I may not respond to emails starting next week (i.e., probably will not... haha).
