I hope you’re having a great week! Here are some updates on the MV Chess Club.
IN-PERSON Event... this Monday:
The next in-person meeting is this Monday, October 5, from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. We’ll have lessons for beginners, puzzles, maybe a quick lesson on middlegame strategy, and free play.
The room we'll be in has an audio connection for the TV, so I might try to show a quick video on general chess principles from Capablanca. (We tried last time but no sound was available in the prior room)
We'll be in the Jacaranda room. I believe it's down the hall to the right when you come in the main door.
Upcoming schedule for our "official" meeting.
- Monday, 10/05/26 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Room: Jacaranda
- Monday, 11/02/26 | 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Room: Sycamore
ONLINE LIVE Tournament:
I'll try to set up an arena-style tournament in the next week or so. Keep an eye out for messages/announcements on Chess.com. As soon as Leah, Lucas, and Alyssa return from vacation, we'll get more online events going again.
Note: You must be a member of the Mission Viejo Chess Club on Chess.com to join the tournaments. To join the online club, please go to this link:

ONLINE DAILY Tournaments:
We have one daily tournament going on right now, against a club from Ukraine. The title was Chess for World Peace and a challenge went out to all clubs. Ironically, the Ukrainian team accepted the challenge. We are currently leading, btw, 2-0 (which doesn't quite feel right... but hey, there are a lot more games to go.
We also have a second tournament going on (daily games) for club members rated under 1500. This was scheduled to start September 11 but just started today. Apparently, the tournament director forgot to hit the "start" button until he was writing this. There are 11 players in that one.
Help With the Club:
If you are willing to set up a meetup in the park, at a restaurant, or any other place you know of with tables, please let me know. Or online. I can send the email for you, and all you need to do is show up. We have 275 members on Chess.com and over 100 local here in MV, so there are always people wanting to play. You can keep it super casual; just ask people to bring a chess set (only 50% need to remember... haha) and just play casual games. Or, I have 5 clocks for the club that you can use to host a small tournament. Super easy. Let me know!
Okay, that’s it for now. Hope to see you soon!
