MV Chess Players,
Happy April Fool’s Day! Here are some club updates for you:
1.
Next in-person meeting is THIS TUESDAY, April 7,
from 5:30 to 8 pm at the senior center. We’ll mainly have casual games, BUT…
the Club Rating and Club Ladder programs have started so you can use your games
at the meeting for either or both of these. More details to follow.
If you haven’t signed up yet, please go to this link. It’s still $5 for our “Chess
for Fun!” class for three months. Here’s
the link: Register
for Chess for Fun
And, great news. The city has responded favorably to my request for an
exemption for insurance requirements for minors. The caveat is that minors will
need to be accompanied by an adult after June 1, when the new regulations go in
place. We are super thankful and appreciate the city’s willingness to work with
us. What a great city we live in!
2.
As noted above, the Club Ratings and Ladder are
now in place. Please go to
https://mvchess.com to see the live ratings or ladder
standings. You can challenge anyone above you on the ladder up to four spots
above you. If you win, you switch places with them. Sort of a King of the Hill
for our chess club.
Important: For a game to count as a rated game for your club ratings, or for
the ladder – or both – your game has to be at least 10 minutes per person, either
live or online. Daily games on Chess.com will count as well as long as both
players agree. The winner of the game is responsible for reporting the game
results via the “Game Report” form on our website: https://mvchess.com
3. We are now using Google Groups for emails (which end up as announcements on
our group page) and this is the first official one. So, if you miss an email,
check our group page by visiting our website and going to the “Announcements”
page.
Drop us a note and let us know if you have suggestions for the club or website, etc.
Okay, that’s enough for now. Hope to see you Tuesday.
