Hello Fellow Task Force Members,

Happy New Year to you!

I’m forwarding a “reminder” message from Shirley Ingalls about the kick-off Green Citizen Action Team meeting on 1/14. See details/agenda below, and direct any questions to Shirley (inga...@yahoo.com) or Bruce England (bken...@earthlink.net).

I hope to see you next week!

Steve

Hi Fellow Task Force Members,

This is to remind you of the first meeting of the M.V. Citizens' Green Action Team, a follow-up group to the task force which will work to implement its recommendations.  Although the research and writing of the rec's was truly labor- and time-intensive, the truth is that it was only the first step in the process of making the city green.

In order not to have to re-invent the wheel, we've managed to schedule the green team leaders of three of our adjacent cities--Los Altos, Menlo Park and Palo Alto--to attend our meeting and tell us the how's and why's of their already functioning groups.  Given how busy they all are, it's an incredibly rare opportunity for us to be able to meet with the three of them together in order to learn from their experience.  Therefore, I hope you'll all make a special effort to be there next Wednesday, Jan. 14th, at 6:30 P.M. in the Plaza Conference Room.

Happy New Year,

Shirley Ingalls

Subject: Green Citizens Action Team Kick-Off Meeting - 1/14/09

Hello former Task Force Members,

At the last CESC meeting (12/15) the council members suppor ted the idea of the formation of a citizen-led green action team, referencing Task Force recommendation 11-2. A few Task Force members present at the meeting brainstormed how to initiate the process, suggesting that it would be valuable to hear from other cities that have already done this.

This is to notify you about the kick-off meeting for this Green Citizen Action Team.

Date/Time:       Wednesday, January 14th, 6:30pm (to no later than 9pm)

Location:         City Hall Plaza Conference Room ( 500 Castro St. , Mt. View. 2nd floor, across from the top of the main stairs)

The agenda will be loosely as follows:

6:30:     Introduction and statement of purpose (see attached Task Force recommendation 11-2)

6:45:     Open or modera ted discussion about how the team might organize and proceed. Some elements of the discussion might include:

- What will the team be named?

- How will the team be organized (e.g., into working groups similar to those used by the Task Force)?

- What tools should the team use for ongoing communications and collaboration (e.g., the existing Google Groups or pbwiki)?

- How will "deliverables" be submit ted and how will the team track them?

- Identify and assign action items and "working group" assignments?

7:00:     Guest speakers from Palo Alto (Walt Hays), Los Altos (Kacey Fitzpatrick), and Menlo Park (Mitch Slomiak and Carol McClelland)

7:45:     Continuation of open discussion

8:15:     Conclusion of open discussion and consolidation of key points

8:30:     Set time and date for the next meeting

8:40:     Adjournment

If you have any comments about the agenda, please email the Task Force General Discussion Google Group:

http://groups.google.com/group/mv-sust-task-force-general

Note: This is a citizen-led, non city-sanctioned effort, and is therefore not subject to Brown Act constraints. I am merely coordinating the venue; I will not be organizing, coordinating, or running meetings. Please direct all questions to the General Discussion list, and if you prefer also Bruce England.

Happy Holidays!

Steve
