To One and All:
Well, here we go into the fall, with some League matches already being played, and more to come this weekend. I’ve had a terrible winter, spring, and summer with too many of my friends dying, which includes two of my football coaches . . . sort of reminds me of Vietnam except for the fact that none of the current group of eleven since the beginning of the year have died from bullets and/or bombs . . . the other issue is the fact that one early July morning my ‘old’ computer started billowing smoke out of the back of it, and so, I got a new computer going, and decided to upgrade to Windows 7 . . . hah, they forget to tell you that you can’t use Outlook Express with it, and so, I couldn’t even open OE, and/or the Address Book Outlook Express uses . . . yikes . . . it took Microsoft two months to get ALL my e-mails switched over to Microsoft Outlook, and all four thousand plus contacts in my old address book . . . it was a joke getting on the phone with them for a least two hours a day for almost two months until they got me to a Tech that knew what the heck was going on. Even though everything appears to be fine now I did loss almost two months of e-mails a few hundred e-mail addresses connecting people with my newsletter specifically. If you know of anyone that wants to receive my newsletter and didn’t get this one please have them send me their contact information to MTR...@gmail.com.
So, I’ll be doing my newsletters again this fall, and hope you all enjoy getting the scores, and some updates. On the matter of updates let me first say I apologies to all those that had Summer Venues I couldn’t post on my site, and results I never got and couldn’t post . . . things should be better going into next summer.
One concern I have is the ‘new’ format for the Men’s Division I, with all the Midwest Clubs and the Kansas City Blues in the ‘new’ Competitive Region 1 – National League . . . there’s so much travel involved I do think some Clubs will be bankrupt by the end of this fall, yes, before the DI season is over, and will want to drop out of DI before next fall . . . I could be wrong, but boy, check out the schedule, http://www.midwestrugby.org/13.14mensdivision1nationalleague.htm.
I also have the Midwest Men’s Division II schedule up, with the Eastern League, http://www.midwestrugby.org/13md2easternleague.htm, and the Western League, http://www.midwestrugby.org/13md2westernleague.htm, with results posted in both, and also the current Standings, http://www.midwestrugby.org/13md2conferencestandings.htm.
I have a few Men’s DIII schedules to post, but not enough of them, and only one Men’s DIV schedule . . . please send me what I don’t have, i.e., I have the CARFU-Illinois DIII, the Northern DIII, and the Southern DIII schedules . . . I have the CARFU-Illinois DIV schedule, and that’s it in DIV . . . I also have the Women’s DI schedule, but not the Women’s DII schedule . . . I’ll be getting everything posted as soon as possible . . . I didn’t get any schedules until late last week, which is the latest I’ve received any schedules since I started sending out my newsletter back in 2002, which is when I started doing this, I think . . . yep, it’s been at least even years, and I can’t believe that there’s no sense of urgency to get the schedules out by the beginning of the summer, which is when I use to get all of them, but, of course, that was under different MW management.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve stopped watching the Men’s Eagles Team ‘cause they are terrible in Rugby against most countries even though they have great athletes. The Women’s Eagles are worth watching ‘cause they win most of their matches, and when it comes to International 7s the Women’s Eagles Team is the only one from the USA that has a great chance of winning a medal in the Olympics . . . of course they get a pittance of the money compared to the Men’s Teams in both 15s and 7s, and I think, in my personal opinion, that is due to what I see as a male chauvinistic driven organization from the top of USA Rugby down. Canada has already seen the light and put more money into their Women’s 7s program than the Men’s Team to the point where it is semi-pro if not pro all the way. They know the guys don’t have a chance of winning a medal at the Olympics, even though they hope they are wrong, and they see the Women’s Team as having a great chance. Of course I’m 67 and at that age a crazy old man.
Hey, have a great fall season, and I look forward to hearing from you sooner than later . . . you will be getting my newsletter all through the fall, and on Mondays as often as I can get them out by then. Last fall I was getting over a hundred match results every weekend after a few weeks into September all the way through to the beginning of playoffs throughout the different Divisions and Collegiate Conferences.
I hope to hear from several Referees this fall too, ‘cause you guys and gals confirm any results I’ve received . . . there are several results I get from Club’s that aren’t quite correct, and most of those don’t give me how many Trys were scored by each Club, which I desperately need while I’m doing the Standings for each Division and/or Collegiate Conference. So, send all your results to me at MTR...@gmail.com, and/or text me at 618-780-0589.
I hope I get more results in the weeks to come ‘cause below is all I have so far
Cheers,
Shawn
