To One and All:

Hey it's another Friday, a bit of chill in the air, but with the sun out in all its glory it is a great Rugby day . . . what time is it . . . it's RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP time! With that being said congratulations to the Pittsburgh Angles for winning the Midwest Women's Division II Championship this past weekend . . . the Angles are in the USA Rugby National Championship starting on Friday the 9th of November . . . the Club will open with Norfolk Storm, which took 2nd place in the Mid-Atlantic Territory . . . the Championship Tournament is being held at Fenway Park South in Ft. Myers, FL . . . more details are on the USA Rugby Women's Division II Championship page listed below.

Congratulations also goes out to our three Division I Clubs that went to the USA Rugby Women's DI National Championship, and it's sad to report that all three were eliminated before the upcoming Championship match. The Chicago Women, and Chicago North Shore were eliminated in the first round, and Detroit got beat in the second round . . . scores are listed below along with the USA Rugby Division 1 Championship link.

On the Men's side of Championship play are all the Clubs involved in the opening rounds of Divisions I, II, and III this coming weekend . . . all the links are below under the respective Division.

Quite a few Collegiate Conferences have either started their Championship playoff, or will this weekend or next, but I don't have ALL that information, because I don't get that much information from the Collegiate Conference Commissioners of most Conferences . . . yep, pretty weird, but that's the state of Collegiate Rugby around the Midwest . . . personally I don't think most of those gals and/or guys know 'how to' promote their own game, and that is a cryin' shame. That is one area where I think USA Rugby has failed our Collegiate game by extraordinary proportions . . . it's like heck, USA Rugby has demanded all these Conferences get formed in order to comply with USA Rugby's 'new' Collegiate program, and yet they haven't help one bit in making the Collegiate game more visible to the general public . . . how lame is that . . . jeez, I can feel the hair on my head standing straight up, and I get this picture of Lloyd Bridges in Airplane II when he was floating upside-down after the plane rolled . . . yikes, but very funny in a hysterical way.

The Steel Valley Rugby Club, in Youngstown, OH, is running a 'Best of the Rest' Tournament on the 10th of November. If you're Club is interested in entering contact the Tournament Director, Bill Burton, burton.w...@gmail.com, 330-519-1874. He already has an Old Boys Club entered, the Old Youngstown Rugby Club of the eighties, along with several other Clubs, which already includes Steel Valley, of course,, North Central West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and the Westmoreland Highlanders. The Tournament is being held at the Club's Home Pitch, Kochis Park, 610 North Lakeview Youngstown Ohio 44509. Sounds like a lot of fun for anyone that is still interested in playing our great game, and who isn't in the Fall Playoff picture . . . the Club doesn't have a website . . . yet, but it does have a Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/groups/261620110540691/ . . . go there for more information, and to touch base with the Club.

Our USA Rugby Eagles Women's Team beat South Africa 24 to zip in the Championship match of the latest International 7s Tournament held in Guangzhou, China. To One and All:

It's been a long, long week for me and my 'wife for life' AJ . . . we both have pneumonia, and neither one of us feels like doing diddly squat . . . go figure. None the less, it is playoff time in the Midwest and around the country for Women's Rugby, which has already started on Friday, and which you can watch live through USTREAM by going to USA Rugby's home page, www.usarugby.org. In the Women's Premier Division National Championship the heavily favored Twin Cities Amazons already lost to the Berkeley All Blues 48 to 26 . . . dang . . . on the bright side our Pittsburgh Angels beat the Norfolk Storm in the Women's Division II National Championship 21 to 12, and will face the Fort Miami Rugby Club tomorrow in one of the semifinal matches Saturday . . . I know USTREAM was covering Pitch 1, but hey, maybe they will be covering the Division II semifinals Saturday..

If you didn't catch our Eagles playing Russia earlier on Friday and winning 40 to 26, you can catch the replay of it here, http://universalsports.com/video/2012-irb-test-match-usa-vs-russia/. Other International Test matches are going on this weekend with two matches Saturday on DirecTV Channel 490 and 490-1 (HD) . . . 12:30 PM ET - Ireland vs. South Africa and 3:00 PM ET - France vs. Australia . . . then on Sunday through http://www.vipboxsports.eu/sports/rugby.html, at 9:30 AM ET - England vs. Fiji (beIN Sports, Ch. 620 is showing this on delay on Friday November 16th at 6:00 PM), and again at 9:30 AM ET - Wales vs. Argentina (beIN Sports, Ch. 620 is showing this on delay on Monday November 12th at 5:00 PM). I haven't checked out the schedule myself, personally, but it looks like DirecTV Channel 490 will showing the Scotland vs. New Zealand match at 9:30 AM ET.

There's also a few new Champions in the Midwest . . . in the Men's Division II Conference all the Men of the Cleveland Rovers Rugby Club are the Eastern League Champions, and the Men of the Wisconsin Rugby Club are the Western League Champions . . . congratulations go out to all of them!

In the Midwest Men's Division III there's still the semifinals to be played this weekend before all the Senior Men's and Women's Midwest Club Competition is over.

I'm fairly certain most of the Midwest competitive fall season will be over in the other Divisions too, and there's even a 7s Tournament going on . . . the Big Ten Universities Men's 7s Tournament will be played Saturday at Ohio State University. Matches start at 9:00 AM with USTREAM having it online starting at 12:00 PM, http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ohio-state-rugby. The Big Ten Universities Women's Clubs are done for the fall, and Penn State is the winner with a very convincing 45 to 8 win over Indiana University in the Championship match . . . all the results are below under Collegiate Women's Rugby - Big Ten Universities.

The WIIL Conference has its quarterfinals going on at the Blaze Rugby Club area Saturday starting at 10:00 AM with the top 4 Collegiate Division II Clubs from Wisconsin playing the combined top 4 Collegiate Division II Clubs from the CARFU and Illinois Rugby Unions. The Clubs from Wisconsin are in the Northern League, and the Clubs from the state of Illinois are in the Southern League. There's also a NSCRO (Small College) Region 3 Central Final 4 playoff Saturday and Sunday at Cottage Grove, WI, http://www.midwestrugby.org/wisconsinrugbygrounds.htm, with Grove City College playing St. Johns University, and in the other match is it Notre Dame College playing the University of Wisconsin - Parkside on Saturday. The winners play on Sunday for the Championship, and the losers play for 3rd place.
