Haven't had time to post the Midwest League matches I've received . . . I will have them posted early Tuesday, www.midwestrugby.org . . . still missin' a bunch . . .

The iRB . . .

The Olympic Campaign: Well if you're not aware of the fact that Rugby Sevens is in the Olympics in 2016 and 2020 you've been livin' under a rock and need to get out a little more . . . Rugby Sevens is in the Olympics. Rugby was voted in with an 81 to 8 vote with one abstention. Golf was approved with a 63 to 27 vote with two abstentions. In the polls, http://www.insidethegames.biz/index.php Rugby had over 86% of total votes . . . golf didn't even come up with 1% of the total . . . many other sports had more votes, and Rugby polled a remarkable 25,368 votes out of a total of 29,305, and that was with an avalanche of more than fifteen thousand votes for Rugby in the last two days of voting. On the Youth front . . .

At the Chicago Blaze Pitch, http://www.midwestrugby.org/dmchicagoblaze.htm, there will be a clinic for Youth Rugby Players on Saturday the 17th of October . . . ages 7 to 13 from noon to 1:00 PM. Check with Graeme Jackson, nzgr...@yahoo.com, for additional information on the Youth Rugby Players Clinic. Bring all the kids 'cause it will be a day of Rugby starting with the Women's Division II Playoff match at 11:00 AM or so . . . then the Clinic, and then the Chicago Blaze Men's Rugby Club against the Chicago Westside Condors . . . fun for all!

The Midwest U19 and U17 Thunderbirds program has one more camp this October in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Sunday the 18th of October. The Camp will run from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Milwaukee Camp will have Bryn Chivers, USA Rugby U20 National Team Coach, as a special guest. All players are welcome at a cost of $25.00 per Camp. You need to get in touch with the Midwest U19 All Star Coach, Kurt Weaver, ku...@rugbyohio.com, as soon as possible. To be considered for this group of Thunderbirds you need to attend this Camp or the one before it in Bowling Green, OH. After this Camp 25 player will be selected for the U19 Team, and 22 players will be selected for the U17 Team. All players selected will be required to attend the final gathering in Chicago before heading to Florida. The Chicago Camp will be held in November, with the date to be announced. Then, both Teams will go to the National Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on the 21st and 22nd of November, 2009.

From Sunday the 15th of November, and for five more consecutive Sundays, the 22nd and 29th of November, and the 13th, 20th and 27th of December (6 weeks total) learn the game of Rugby by participating in Touch Rugby. Coaches from the Illinois Youth Rugby Association will teach the basics of Rugby running, passing, beating your opponent, and the onside/offside rules. Touch Rugby is a fun, fast, and exciting way to learn the game . . . these clinics in Touch Rugby are for Boys from the 8th grade to high school seniors, and from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM . . . program fee is $120.00.
