Hello,
My name is Bethany Bowman and I am a senior in the ASL/English
Interpreting Program at Western Oregon University. As part of a
research project this term on interpreter stress, I am contacting
working interpreters to ask if they would be able to take a quick
(nine-question) survey online.
The goal of this research project is to study stress as experienced by
interpreters. This project also aims to document coping strategies
developed by these interpreters and apply this knowledge in a way that
is useful to interpreters preparing to enter the workforce. This paper
will focus largely on information and data collected from interviews,
surveys, and other first-hand sources. If you decide to take the
survey, your participation in this study will be kept completely
confidential and if you divulge any identifiable information it will
not be included in the results.
This research will benefit both new interpreters entering the field
and those who have been working as interpreters for many years. By
sharing ideas and coping techniques, interpreters will be able to
learn from and build upon each other's experiences, which will draw
the interpreting community together and scaffold new interpreters to
higher levels.
The survey can be found at

If you would like an opportunity to share more, feel free to contact
me for an interview.
For your help, time, and contribution, thank you :)
