Subject: Black Rock Conference Registration Now Open

Hi Mack,

Since you expressed early interest in the Reclaiming the Right to Rock: Black Experiences in Rock Music conference, I thought I’d give you a shout to let you know we just updated the conference website:http://www.indiana.edu/~aaamc/br/brconf_2009.html.   It now contains the finalized conference program, list of related events, and the registration form.

A few highlights include a panel with Moe Mitchell and Tamar-kali, a screening of Afro-Punk followed by a Q&A with James Spooner, and a Saturday night conference with Tamar-Kali as the closing act.  We’re also bringing in Ike Willis (former lead singer and guitarist for Frank Zappa), Stew, Netic (Game Rebellion), Kamara Thomas (Earl Greyhound), Rob Fields (Bold As Love black rock blog author), and a number of other guests.  The full conference is $15 for students and the concert is free to IU students with a valid student ID.

The Afro-Punk screening and Q&A is free and open to the general public, so if you can help me get the word out to all of the James Spooner fans in Bloomington, that would be fabulous.  Film screenings can be a hard sell (even when they’re free), and I want to make sure that Spooner has a great turn out for the film and a sizeable crowd of people who stay for his Q&A.

Best wishes,
Ronda
