Title:  Structaural Coupling: Maturana, Varela, and music in mediated interaction

Abstract

Autopoiesis (or self-production) is at the center of Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela's theories of life and cognition. This talk considers autopoiesis from a musical perspective, and looks at some of the ways systems thinking and cybernetics can create new musical experiences in computer games and mobile applications.
