MLM's Medicine Program to be Featured on Channel 4 News
Tonight (Wednesday, June 7) at 9:00 p.m. and tomorrow (Thursday, June
8) at 5:00 p.m. Channel 4 News will run a story featuring MLM's
Medicine Cabinet program. Amy Breashears, director of Elder services,
was interviewed for the story about how the program has provided the
funds to fix a motorized scooter for a disabled client. "The program
has enabled the client to be mobile again," MLM Executive Director
James Glynn explained.
The pilot medical emergency assistance program funded through a gift
from the Baptist-Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation has taken wings at
Metropolitan Lutheran Ministry. The MLM "medicine cabinet" began last
fall with an initial grant of $100,000. In the first two and one-half
months, the program funded nearly $20,000 in family and individual
medical services for 128 people. The Foundation recently doubled the
funding to $200,000/year starting July 1.
The medicine cabinets are located at MLM's Jackson, Wyandotte and Clay
County locations. They provide help for medical costs such as
prescriptions, cancer treatment, eyeglasses and hearing aids. Not
covered are routine doctor visits and hospitalization.
