2027 FONDECYT Postdoctoral at CDIA UdeC
We’re looking to host a new generation of 2027 FONDECYT postdoctoral researchers at the Center for Data and Artificial Intelligence (CDIA) of the Universidad de Concepción, and we’d like to sponsor your application.
At CDIA, we build many of Chile’s theoretical and applied artificial intelligence projects. We are part of the School of Engineering but collaborate with engineers, computer scientists, statisticians, computational social scientists, and experts in multiple domains (astronomy, forestry, medicine, and social sciences, among many others) to tackle real-world problems: classifying millions of astronomical alerts each night through ALeRCE, reading medical images, modeling industrial and environmental data, and increasingly examining the impact of AI on societies and institutions, not just on benchmarks.
If you want to pursue your postdoc in Chile and work on the frontier of knowledge in data science and artificial intelligence, this institution is a good place to be.
Who we’re hoping to hear from. Researchers recently out of a PhD who do quantitative, computational, or methodological work in any of these directions:
Machine learning and deep learning
Graph ML and network data science
Astroinformatics and large-scale scientific data
Large language models and Agentic AI
Computer vision and scientific imaging
Computational social science
AI and cybersecurity
Open-source tooling and methods for data science
Applied AI for industry, environment, and public problems
Generative Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Society
We prioritize depth, independence, and a clear research idea over simply meeting every requirement. A strong publication record is helpful, but a project we genuinely want to work on is even more important.
What sponsorship looks like. If your project fits, we’ll work with you on the FONDECYT submission and back you as your host institution. We invite shortlisted candidates to a short online conversation about the proposal first, partly to gauge fit, and also because we’d rather build the application together than receive a finished one.
We invite prospective applicants to submit their interest by emailing a single PDF to cd...@inf.udec.cl. This document should include:
A current curriculum vitae and a list of publications.
A one-page personal statement detailing your background and your motivation for joining CDIA.
A one-page preliminary project abstract.
Please note that there are no mandatory teaching requirements for these roles, and proficiency in Spanish is not a prerequisite.
Deadline: Please contact us by July 31st, 2026.
