The newly founded Institute for Machine Intelligence at JKU Linz (directed by Dieter Büchler) invites applications for fully funded PhD & postdoc positions. We study how intelligent behavior emerges from learning systems interacting with the physical world. We develop algorithms and robotic platforms that enable machines to learn from experience, generalize beyond training conditions, and operate autonomously in complex environments to solve the toughest real-world challenges.

Successful candidates have the chance to work on various topics in physical AI/robot learning, including
- sim-to-real transfer
- continual learning
- foundation models for embodied intelligence
- soft robotics
- reinforcement learning algorithms

Benefit from close supervision and individually tailored mentoring with substantial freedom to shape your research direction within the institute's scope. Build a strong international network through our ties to leading research groups worldwide. Affordable housing paired with a competitive salary and beautiful nature makes Linz an exceptional place to live.

We are excited to receive your application directly through our portal, where you will find additional information about the roles:

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to share that the latest issue of ACM Transactions on Social Computing (TSC), Volume 9, Issue 2 (June 2026), is now available online via the ACM Digital Library.

This issue includes our editorial, “Social Computing at Scale — Trust, Behavior, and System Design,” together with a strong set of research articles covering timely topics in social computing: https://dl.acm.org/toc/tsc/2026/9/2

We warmly invite you to explore the new issue, share relevant papers with your community, and consider TSC for your future high-quality submissions.

Sincerely,

Xiaoming
