The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) invites applications for a
postdoctoral or research scientist position in Machine Learning/AI for weather forecasting.
This role is embedded within a collaborative research program between MBZUAI and the AI for Climate (AICE) initiative at the University of Chicago, supported by funding from the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Court of the United Arab Emirates and the Gates Foundation. The program focuses on advancing AI-based weather forecasting methods while supporting their operational deployment in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). More details are available at

https://aimforscale.orgThis position is suited for a highly motivated researcher interested in combining methodological research with capacity-building activities, including training and knowledge transfer, to support the long-term adoption of AI-driven forecasting systems. Particular emphasis is placed on agriculturally relevant forecast products and close collaboration with operational forecasting communities.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Atmospheric or Climate Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; a strong publication record in top-tier venues; and demonstrated ability to conduct independent, high-quality research.

Preferred Expertise* Experience applying machine learning methods to weather forecasting, climate analysis, or spatial data
* Strong background in spatiotemporal modeling, probabilistic prediction, or time-series analysis
* Proficiency in Python and commonly used machine learning frameworks
* Experience working with weather or climate datasets (e.g., reanalysis, satellite, or observational data)
* Strong publication record in top-tier AI or domain-relevant venues
* Excellent written and spoken English skills
* Experience with data assimilation, uncertainty quantification, or ensemble methods
* Familiarity with agricultural or environmental applications of weather forecasts
* Experience working in interdisciplinary or international research collaborations
