Overview:

In this year's edition of the ARDUOUS workshop, the focus is on the challenges and impact of annotation in the era of large language models (LLMs) and foundation models (FMs). LLMs and FMs require massive amounts of data for training, while high-quality annotation remains expensive and slow to scale. Errors in annotation can propagate as models are used across tasks, and LLMs are increasingly used for pre-labelling or generating synthetic data — injecting bias and reducing diversity of interpretation. A key challenge is that annotations are frozen in time and may not remain valid as norms, laws and facts evolve.

Topics include (but not limited to):
• Producing annotation for training, fine-tuning or adapting LLMs and FMs
• The role and impact of annotations in designing and validating AI applications
• Labelling processes and requirements for high-quality annotations across settings and tasks
• Ensuring the maintenance of labels over time
• Innovative tools, interfaces and automated methods for annotating data
• Methods for standardisation and normalisation in annotation practices
• Evaluation methods for quality assurance of annotation in the era of LLMs and FMs
• Novel topics and approaches in this field
