As you probably know, some states have amazing programs to help caregivers. Massachusetts, for example, pays families 1500 a month to care for their loved ones or to use to pay for daycare or home health aides. Michigan is very lacking in this respect. Representative Vincent Gregory will be holding a coffee hour on September 21, 2009. I can't attend, but if any of you would like to attend and speak for some of us, that would be awesome. I have emailed Representative Gregory about my concerns on this issue. Here is the information if you can attend:
Monday, September 21, 2009

This is a great opportunity for caregiver voices to be heard. I won’t be able to attend but it would be great if MI Caregivers could be there. Thanks for sending this information.

Want to meet with a state representative to discuss your concerns?
I will be attending this event…currently Michigan home health aide/ help program only pay families between $196 - $401 per client with no benefits for the provider, forcing the provider to work two full time jobs (a regular job for benefits and our caregiver job without benefits). This situation is insane because we as caregivers have to live, too. The cost of living is much higher in Massachusetts; however it should not be use as a factor for them to get more money.
Health & Safety Training & Enhancement Classes plays a big role in getting more money, and there are free health & safety classes, CNA, and LPN classes being held in Michigan at the Cassie Stern Healthcare Workers Education & Training Center located at 2604 4th St. Detroit, MI 48201. Call Rosalinda Orta at: (313) 263-0419 to be added on the list for the next class session.
