Dear NFCA Family Caregivers Members and Friends -
In our August e-letter you should have received yesterday we
encouraged ALL family caregivers to use this August Congressional
Recess period to reach out to your representatives and really SPEAK UP
for the importance of health care reform to family caregivers ... and
everyone.
And all of you in Southeastern Michigan have a truly special
opportunity this Thursday, August 6th at 6:00p, at the Romulus
Athletic Center at 35765 Northline Road in Romulus. Congressman John
Dingell will be hosting a town hall to discuss the importance of
health care reform in this country.
Congressman Dingell, as Chairman Emeritus of the Committee on Energy &
Commerce and Dean of the U.S. House of Representatives, is the lead
sponsor of the legislation H.R. 3200, “America’s Affordable Health
Choices Act of 2009", which passed the Committees on Ways & Means and
Education & Labor, and will come to the Floor of the House for a vote
in September.
On behalf of family caregivers nationwide - the family caregivers in
the 15th Congressional District have a unique opportunity to speak
directly to Congressman Dingell, one of the leading voices on
healthcare reform in all of Congress.
If you are able to attend the Town Hall on Thursday night, here are
two suggested questions you could ask the Congressman:
- How will the health reform you are proposing improve the lives of
caregiving families living with chronic illness and disabilities in
ways our current system does not?
- How will the health reform you are proposing promote continuity of
care across healthcare settings for all of us dealing with multiple
doctors for multiple issues?
In addition to attending the town hall you may have seen in the local
news that the insurance companies, "tea party" activists, and other
agitators are using these town halls as an opportunity to try to
embarrass, heckle, and scream at the very people who are trying hard
to reform our broken health care system. And, of course, no one is
working harder on that that Congressman Dingell.
There could be a fair amount of protesters at this Town Hall meeting,
so it is more important than ever that you demonstrate that Southeast
Michigan, and the thousands of family caregivers who live here, stand
with their Congressman in the need to save health care in America.
Please plan to attend the Healthcare Town Hall Meeting this Thursday
night, 6:00 pm at the Romulus Athletic Center. Bring your family and
friends and PLEASE forward this email along to any other family
caregivers, support groups or others that care about family caregivers
and healthcare reform. This really is your opportunity to SPEAK UP.
Look for our NFCA Michigan volunteers at the event. They will have
NFCA name tags on and be sure to introduce yourself. If you have any
questions about the Town Hall please call
313-278-2936. Thank you!!!
Take care,
