Starting tonight and over the next few days and weeks are several interesting events hosted by the Seven Sisters Clubs of Philadelphia.  There are a lot of interesting topics covered. I hope you can make some time to check out some of these events. Sorry for the late notice!


Tuesday, April 7th  

From Rule Breakers to Taste Makers: The History of Seven Sisters Style

 

ORGANIZED BY THE BRYN MAWR CLUB; OPEN TO SEVEN SISTERS CLUBS

 

All alumni and Bryn Mawr students are invited to listen to a talk by fashion historian and author, Rebecca C. Tuite, about her new book, "Seven Sisters Style" (Rizzoli). From Bermuda shorts and blazers, to Shetland sweaters and saddle shoes, Tuite considers the unique Seven Sisters campus style and its lasting impact on American fashion.

It Takes a Village:  The Role of Micro-Enterprise in Keyna’s Lewa Community

 

ORGANIZED BY WIL OF GREATER PHILADELPHIA; OPEN TO SEVEN SISTERS CLUBS

 

WIL of Greater Philadelphia—a non-profit focused on empowering women as leaders globally—has invited Seven Sisters alumni to learn about the journey and work of The Lewa Micro-enterprise Program.  This program operates through the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Northern Kenya and serves a community of approximately 2,000 women across more than 15 communities in areas that surround the Lewa Conservancy.  This is an exciting opportunity to see how women in our community have combined their talents to benefit women globally.

Career Course: Design Thinking 101

 

ORGANIZED BY THE VASSAR CLUB; OPEN TO SEVEN SISTERS CLUBS

 

In this interactive, two-hour workshop, Natalie Nixon—Vassar graduate and Philadelphia University’s G. Allen Mebane IV ¹52 Endowed Chair for Design Thinkers—will explain the basic tenets of design thinking.  The workshop will look at how a range of companies are integrating this method to spark new thinking about problem-solving and problem-framing (I.e.,  “Did you even ask the right question?”).  Participants will explore together with hands-on activities.

Getting It Done with Google Docs:
A Workshop for Entrepreneurs, Employees, Educators, and Parents

 

ORGANIZED BY THE BARNARD CLUB; OPEN TO SEVEN SISTERS CLUBS

 

Join educator and technologist Dr. Michael Friesen for a hands-on workshop covering Google Docs and held at Butcher's Sew Shop, an impressive business founded and led by Bryn Mawr alum Amalia Petherbridge.  Following a general introduction to Google Docs, participants will discover how to use the suite as an effective collaboration tool, highlighting its usefulness for:

 

·      Entrepreneurs and start-up businesses;

·      Virtual teams;

·      Telecommuters and employees who work from home

·      Professionals looking for alternatives to sending emails with attachments; and

·      Parents or educators looking to collaborate with children, regardless of location.

From Barnard to a Life in Fiction:  Author Talk with Stephanie Feldman
