FYI-

Renew Indianapolis is a community land bank serving the City --- see their announcement below about the new “side lot” program that allows homeowners to purchase select City-owned vacant properties adjacent to their homestead for only $750.

Hopefully, Renew Indy will also have the opportunity to take on more responsibility for the disposition of City-County Surplus Property as well.  Check out the Renew Indy website for a list of their pending and completed property sales at http://www.renewindianapolis.org/understand-what-we-do/applications-sales/.  Unlike the Treasurer, who simply sells to the highest bidder,  Renew Indianapolis has much more stringent criteria for disposing of vacant properties, and properties sold through Renew Indianapolis have much higher potential to be renovated or redeveloped.

For a chance to hear from Katy Brett, Director of Renew Indianapolis, and meet neighbors interested in land use consider attending the next Crown Hill Neighborhood Association Land Use Committee meeting.

Tuesday  August 5th – 7:00pm

The Renaissance Center – 3549 N Boulevard Place  46208

Subject: Renew Indianapolis launches limited Side Lot Program

Today Renew Indianapolis is launching a side lot program.

Recognizing that increasing density and building on vacant lots is a high priority for both the City of Indianapolis and for Renew Indianapolis, not all lots in the existing inventory are eligible for the side lot program.  Please check renewindianapolis.org to verify an individual lot’s eligibility.  A column in the search results and in the downloadable list of properties notes whether or not a property is eligible for the side lot program.

Eligible buyers in the side lot program will meet the criteria outlined in the recently approved side lot policy, which can be found athttp://www.renewindianapolis.org/view-our-policies/

The application for the side lot program can be found at  http://www.renewindianapolis.org/im-interested-in-a-side-lot

The recently released policy does not apply to general interest in gardening, farming, or developing other greenspace on vacant lots.  Renew Indianapolis continues to work with the Department of Metropolitan Development to develop a policy for such uses.

Thanks for your interest, and let us know if you have any questions!
