Dear AMMP students, friends, members and directors, Happy New Year from AMMP:
1. 1. AMMP welcomes the newest MD/MBA program: New York University.
2. 2. AMMP thanks Harvard Business School for hosting a global invitation only conference entitled: Healthcare Curriculum of the 21st Century. Three AMMP board members attended along with many international healthcare leaders. We look forward to the white paper, which is soon to be released.
3. 3. Please review the newest articles posted on our website including NEJM “What Business are we in? The Emergence of Health as the Business of Health Care” (http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1206862)
along with UCI’s 2012/13 MD/MBA information session video (http://msweb.merage.uci.edu/Mediasite/Play/d1f90cd7d50f4011b0fa14f72ceaef911d).
4. 4. AMMP is working with the Imperial College of London to contrast and compare physician leadership in the US and the UK.
5. 5. Oxford University Press is working with AMMP to review a new proposed book, which will relate to physician leadership training.
6. Currently a 2013 AMMP conference is not planned. Please consider conferences planned by AMMP partners including:
a. The American College of Physician Executives (ACPE)
b. The Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE)
7. USC and UCI have worked together on a survey of residency director attitudes towards MD/MBA candidates. The results are incredible and
we are still planning to submit for publication, we will keep you posted.

4. Regina Herzlinger at Harvard Business School has commissioned a
Steering Committee for the conference on 21st Century Health Care
Leadership: Confronting Modern Challenges with a Modern Curriculum to
be held in October which I am a part of. The objective of the
conference is to develop a curriculum which reflects the need of 21st
century health care systems worldwide for innovative-thinking
entrepreneurial leaders; and to encourage greater use of field–based
studies in teaching MBA students in the many areas that fall under
what is called health care administration.
5. KI-Mikeal Thollander, MD, MBA and I have been working together
over the past 2 years on creating an MD/MBA program in Sweden. As you
may know he has been attending AMMP’s annual conferences and
exchanging ideas with us. We launched the new program Sept 5-9th 2011
and met their inaugural group of over 40 students.
6. Physicians’ Pathways to Non-Traditional Careers and Leadership

7. Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE)
Arlen Meyers, MD, MBA, a past MD/MBA program director is now in
Colorado and involved in physician entrepreneurship. Please join the
non-profit organization free if you’re interested!
