For those interested, I have been given an opportunity to brief the
Conservation Commission (Missouri Department of Conservation) about light
pollution. The schedule is 9:30am, Friday November 3, 2006 at the Burr Oak
Woods Conservation Nature Center, 1401 NW Park Road, Blue Springs, MO. I am
scheduled for 10 minutes.

Robert,

I'm curious as to how you got on the agenda and what your focus of the talk will be? 10 minutes isn't much time.

I've often thought it would be nice to try to link light pollution to some of MDC's other initiatives, including the land owner conservation programs for birds (game and otherwise) and other animals. With the new area here in St. Louis at the Missouri-Mississippi confluence there might be some way to leverage light pollution controls against the habitat of the bald eagle.

Unfortunately, Blue Springs is across the state from me so I won't be able to attend, but if you get good feedback, or feel there is more to say I'd be willing to try and continue the message at a St. Louis area meeting.

thanks,
jerry in St. Louis

I noticed the upcoming meeting in this area and submitted a request to be
added to the agenda through their website - Questions and Comments - Luck??
http://www.mdc.mo.gov/cgi-bin/comments/comments.cgi?referer=http://www.mdc.mo.gov/

10 Minutes - very tight. Based on the audience, this is mostly an
introduction to the problem, showing current trends in our state and where
information can be found relating to light pollution and its effect upon the
environment. At this level, the best that can be hoped for is they turn it
over to their department researchers for a study and internal report. I
will post my presentation and slides at http://www.trianglealumni.org/mcrol/
after the meeting. I will let you know the response I receive.
