I am so excited to learn that so many of the people who have posted
are doing wonderful things for children in their programs and making
an effort to provide awesome, developmentally appropriate
environments!

As I have read the posts from all of you, I wanted to share some
information that deals with many of the posts. First, there are some
great resources for creating spaces indoors and out for young
children. The first is Inspiring Spaces for Young Children by Jessica
DeViney, Sandra Duncan, Sara Harris, Mary Ann Rody, and Lois
Rosenberry. Also, the companion tool, the ROSIE - Rating Observation
Scale for Inspiring Environments by the same authors. I work for a
resource and referral agency in Ohio and Mary Ann Rody came to a
training that we offered to share information about how to incorporate
nature and art into programs for young children. It was one of the
best we have offered! Great ideas and low cost options, especially
with challenging financial times right now.

We also have visited as a team of technical assistance providers, a
center in Berkey, Ohio who is the only Nature Explore certified center
in Ohio right now. The owner is Nancy and she came to the training
also to share how they developed their program. Their website is:
http://www.wix.com/growingminds/gmlc. Check it out! You will
definitely get some ideas!

I agree, many wonderful ideas have been shared during our
conversations. When I visit centers and early childhood classrooms I
am impressed by the creativity of the teachers working with young
children. The Inspiring Spaces is not only a beautiful book---but it
also includes many unique ideas that could be implemented in a
classroom.

Today is my last day to lead our discussion. I have enjoyed hearing
about the environments that you have designed that have had postive
impacts on young children's learning.
If you would like to talk more about any of our topics-- please email
me at isb...@etsu.edu
Let's continue to work to create the best places for young children
and their teachers.
