Hi all...

I have always thought that the constellation mural we see in The Grand Concourse is not original, but a replica. The original was painted directly onto the concrete ceiling. But, in the early 1940s, when the mural became damaged due to leaks in the ceiling, a false ceiling with an exact replica mural was built a foot or two under the original. 

But one of my fellow docents just told me that's wrong: the ceiling we see today IS the original. 

Who is correct??

Yep, it's not the original. Here's a relevant paragraph from Grand Central: Gateway to a Million Lives by John Belle (as in Beyer Blinder Belle) and Maxinne R. Leighton.
