We hope you had a wonderful summer and that, in the midst of the
current turmoil, we hope that your fall is off to a colorful start. In
the midst of these turbulent times, we are comforted by the knowledge
that books on the shelf have intrinsic value that dollars stuffed in a
mattress can never provide.

We have had some wonderful new material arrive ranging from a number
of Dard Hunter volumes to a small collection of scarce and significant
ornithological volumes to a remarkable Howard Pyle title (inscribed to
E. Fields days before he died with a letter to Fields’ widow,
expressing sorrow and presenting the book). It has been a very busy
few months on the cataloguing front.

Also, we will be debuting an important “new” Rockwell Kent item at the
Boston ABAA fair, a set of loose sheets of Candide, all hand painted
by Kent himself as a proof for one of the colorists of the limited
edition. Of the four copies he painted, this is the only set known to
still exist. Kent’s Candide, as you may know, was the first book to
carry the Random House imprint...which was designed by Kent.

The fall show season has begun. We started in Baltimore and it was
great fun as always. I presented a seminar that was very well
received...though it was the last day of a four day show, so people
may have just been pleased to have a place to sit down. We received
some nice press coverage as a result of this show...this following a
photo and blurb in the June issue of Maine Antiques Digest. Fun is had
by all.

As always, if there is anything you would like me to bring to a given
show, please do not hesitate to ask. You are welcome, of course to
contact me at any time on nearly any front...though the more bookish
the better. Until then,
Warm regards,
/ijk
