Hello! Although it doesn't look like this group is super active
online, I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself anyway.

I bought a non-running (but turns over) '71 Honda CB350 Twin a few
months ago... my first project bike. Actually, this is my first
motorcycle, although I've owned a couple of 150cc scooters, and rode
the hell out of 'em.

I've been working away when I can, and am really hoping to make
significant progress by the spring. I have a build thread on
dotheton.com, if you want to check it out:

http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=19800.0

Once I get her running, I have plans for more of a restore than a
conversion, but with some sportier cosmetic mods: lower seat that can
still ride one up, paint, bars, etc.

Anyway, glad to be here. I look forward to meeting some local folks
who are into this sort of thing!

Welcome to the fold, James.  I'm hoping to add a 350-450 Honda twin project to my stable before long, too - hoping to go vintage racing in '11.

Best of luck on the rebuild.  If you need any help, although the group is pretty quiet, we do have lots of knowledgeable folks here in town.

Cheers,
Alex

Welcome James. I haven't been very active even when the group was stronger but I'd like to see it get traction again. We had a couple fun nights at the Royale. Maybe its time for a night out.

Alex, what kind of guitar were you playing at the Tap Room a couple weeks ago. Hollow body with 4 knobs. My buddy plays and mentioned it on the way home. Don't know why he didn't ask you.

Joe, that's a 1963 Harmony H59 Rocket III, made in Chicago, USA.  Love that thing.  If I didn't already have two guitars with immeasurable sentimental value, that one would be the pride of my small collection.  As it stands, call it Workhorse #1, since it's my go-to guit-box 95% of the time.

And it has six knobs - volume and tone for each of the three pickups, along with a dial/lever selector - but who's counting?

Hello all and welcome James, nice bike, I had one myself years ago, bombproof motor.  I gotta get my scoot out of mothballs myself this year, 1982 Kaw Gpz550. Alex you mention vintage racing, where does one do that here in STL?

Well, not here.  But we're smack in the middle of a bunch of other tracks that run WERA and AHRMA races.  I haven't yet decided which group I want to run with, but they're largely comparable in classing and such.

Wow... I'm an idiot. I forgot that I hadn't signed up for individual
emails. I thought my intro post fell on deaf ears. Thanks for the warm
welcome!

With the cold weather, the holidays and all the recent snow (I don't
have a garage,) I haven't done as much as I'd like. I did get the tank
de-rusted, the interior sealed and the exterior sand-blasted, finished
rebuilding my carbs and changed the oil, though. The 20+yr old oil I
drained looked pretty damn good, though... no metal shavings or other
debris. That gives me hope. Now, I just have to put everything back
together, with the new fuel lines and filters and some fresh fuel, and
see if she'll start up! After that, I've got tires, tubes and rim
strips to put on, brake pads to change out, and I've got to get a new
drive chain and air filters. THEN the cosmetic stuff begins... clubman
bars, paint, polish and a seat rebuild (lower/sportier, but so I can
still ride with my foxy pillion.) Oh, yeah... I prolly need new brake,
clutch and throttle cables. A new throttle tube/sleeve wouldn't hurt,
either.

Incidentally, when someone says "you'll probably need new fork seals,"
are they just talking about these guys (item #30,) and some fresh oil?

Thanks!
