Gents further to my previous email, it looks like my problem relates to the clutch as a small section of the metal holding the pressure plate springs ( see attached picture) had broken loose and it had slipped out and stopped clutch fully disengaging - box has been pulled apart and luckily only replacements are steel baulk rings for the brass units and new rear oil seal - together with renewing couch parts of course.

Yes Peter, I can see how this could cause a problem. George Barton said to say hello.

What clutch are you using? I decided many years ago that my ankle felt uncomfortable around a coil spring clutch at the kind of revs I was turning w/ my FWE. So I had a custom flywheel fabricated that allowed me to use the 1275 AH Sprite competition diaphagm clutch. The standard 1275 piece won't take the power, but the competition one will. May be hard to find today.

Good morning Roger
Nice to hear from you again after many years-my clutch is nothing special noting that I run FWA so not the same power as your car-my gearbox is still a smooth case albeit with close ratio straight cut gears

Kind regards

Peter

Peter,

Same gearbox I use. Rather than modifying the case, I take a few thousanths off the layshaft thrust washers. It works the same. Ive also modified the front cover to accept a rubber lip seal.

I don't like using a coil spring clutch. I feel this is most dangerous and most likely to explode.
I don't think there's much difference between FWA and FWE. The big torque increase comes w/ FWB. If you're not racing your Eleven, You could probably be OK w/ a standard 1275 clutch, which gets you a diaphagm clutch, a big safety plus.
