I should mention that my Falcon-bodied Sprite, the class winner of the
1960 Sebring 12hr and LeMans 24hr, used the Metro 8" drums at the rear
when fitted at the front w/ the 8" Girlling discs it raced with at all
tracks save LeMans, where it used the rare Dunlop 4 wheel discs. It
reverted to the Girling brakes for it's last works outing at Nassau 1960
when it was sold off into the US, so the Girling brakes are what I have.

The Metropolitan Story, I think by Foster? mentions Austin commercial
vans as the axle source. Perhaps not a lorry, but a van and the larger
brakes to stop it. The Jimmy and Eve Valentine's Metropolitan Pit Stop
in Hollywood, California have the same source. Interesting museum for
Metropolitans...
elevens should be so lucky. Maybe bad information, made sense though. -

Dear Roger, You are quite right. I remember the launch of the "bug-eye"
Sprite co-incided with the 1958 Monaco GP and hundreds of them were
being driven up and down the Lower Corniche as we worked on the Lotus
12s at Lotus first appearance in a GP. When Stewart Smith said that the
Nash Metropolitan was some sort of lorry I thought - Tues, Apr 22 2008
