Gents Re my previous email

there is a slight difference between ratios of the 2 types of gear sets available for 1st 2nd and 3rd
ie Quaife
2.573 , 1.66 and 1,195
whilst the others and what my current ratios are ( or were given the state the box is is now in)
2.573 1.722, 1.255

any thoughts on benefits of either please?

Peter
I have machined some Quaife rear hubs for a rallying friend of mine they lasted for 2 rally’s before the things wore out nothing to do with the work I did they were not made of the correct material and were to soft.
I would stick with the original gear sets there is always a problem with the heat treatment on remanufactured stuff 9 times out of ten.
Also look out for the angle of the gears as mesh angle could be different and the box will whine like a wolf.
Stick with new old stock if you can my policy these days Chinese is cheep but does not have the life span we have come to expect.

Thx Andy for your prompt reply-hope you are travelling well- occasionally catch up with Greg and Chris who both look well-so does that mean that most of the various sites with the BMC spur gears are new stock made in China?
Interesting that there is also a bit of variation in prices and perhaps that's why
Also noticed in recent issue of HLR MAGAZINE an article by a Malcolm Wishart- do you know him-there was fellow who worked in the Clydesdale Bank when I was seconded there some 25 years back for a few years with same name- Peter

I have a 30 and it would be nice to share information on these cars as we do with most historic cars.
So the question is does anyone on this group now of any 30s out there. As far as I am aware there were 20 series ones and 12 series twos and three or four 40s my internet searches has found about ten 30s and one 40 which are running at the moment so their must be more out there.
There is a site  lotus 30.Com  which is great but kirk is so busy it is not easy to keep the site up to date but he is a great chap. My direct mail is andrew.br...@btinternet.com if you would rather get in touch that way as I know some people like to remain under the radar.
