Westfield sold on ebay

This just sold today for $13000. I suppose at that price, the new owner will think it qualifies as a historic Lotus and will probably want to race it in our vintage groups.

I can't imagine paying anything more than a pittance for it. I'd say it is about 8-10K more than it is worth.

Well, it's certainly not a genuine XI but that doesn't mean it's totally without value.  It appeared to be built around MG midget mechanicals (lots of reasonably priced tuning parts for the engine) and usefully retained the MG's road registration.  To my mind, this car retains the ethos of early Lotus cars:  a slightly sophisticated kit car, wrenched and driven to death by enthusiastic amateurs.  I think it could be quite enjoyable and competitive, driven on the road (rather than trailered) to the local auto sprints and hill climbs.  Unlike the real McCoy, if it got bend in the process, the owner wouldn't cry too many tears.  Would anyone drive a genuine club XI to the coffee shop on a sunny Saturday morning?  Probably not--they've become too collectible, too valuable.  The Westfield can be enjoyed.  Very few can afford the real Mona Lisa.  Just about everyone can afford a good art print...

I displayed an S1 LM Eleven alongside a Westfield Eleven in my shop for years . . (both now sold and gone)  The first remark from most visitors was about the mundane origin of the Westfield's MG midget drive train.  The next observations was that the frame design and frame construction of the Westfield looked worlds better that the real Eleven!

As Administrator of this group I must apologise for allowing this

I have just had a total hip replacement operation (successful I am
pleased to say) and this has put me offline for about ten days,
