I just found out that the son of my hairdresser (who lives on Forrest) and a few of his friends were playing basketball on the court by the cafeteria recently, and they were held up at gunpoint.  Shots were fired into the air.  This was at 8:30 p.m.  The guys still haven't been found.  Thank goodness nobody was hurt.

This is just me, but anytime I take the kids to the playground after school (or any time for that matter), I always make sure there are other families back there.  It's all so hidden and so far back from the street, so it's a perfect place for scum like that to attack.

Be careful!!

I would  add this to anyone that goes to water & weed the garden – I don’t ever go alone and I go during the day.

On that note, last year someone watering the garden during the day had their cellphone stolen.  I have also been there and felt uncomfortable with some of the teens that come to hang out there.  I also felt like part of the draw for teens and some of the adults (after hours) is the basketball court.  If Lockeland kids aren’t using it during school hours, does it need to stay up?  They also ride bikes, etc. back there – is there a way to make it more secure?

Since Lockeland is a public school, the grounds are also public.  I've been told that ANYBODY can play on the playground at any time.  But I agree that there needs to be a feeling of safety - maybe putting up signs that there are cameras or something like that.

Security DVR and camera packages are not expensive... for a couple
thousand max, several cameras could be installed with a DVR that
records everything. Then if there is an incident you have the last
week recorded. Not sure what district policy is on this, but its not
hard to do technically.
