There will be five pieces of art up for auction at this year's
Chili Supper. The works were created by each grade level
with oil pastels and water based paint. This technique is
called an oil pastel resist and was inspired by the artist
Jim Dine.
Each child in our school was asked to reflect on what made
them unique and to find a way to make a simple symbol
(like a circle, dot, swirl, star or heart) show their one of a
kind personality. We talked about what a miracle it is
that out of the billions of people in the world not one
of us is just alike.
Although each of the students at Lockeland worked with
just a little square of paper, oil pastels and paint I'm sure
you'll agree that each grade levels' creation is as unique
and beautiful as each of our children.
