development will be much faster  if you use Kdevelop and Qt designer  method instead of
going the command line way

Hi,

Can anybody tell me why a NAND Flash gets corrupted, other than failure of power failure during any operations like read, write or erase on NAND ?

I have 2.4.19 kernel using YAFFS filesystem. I am seeing lots of ecc error messages and bad block occurrences when I run the dmesg command.

I tried to dump the contents of nand using nanddump. But I could only see a I/O error at end of first block.

I tried to build latest NAND from the mtd site. Probably my MTD sub system doesn’t support it. Some IOCTL’s included in the latest version of nanddump

do a check for bad block. I commented it. But still I am not able to dump data as the read call gets failed.

Can anybody suggest me any idea on who this nanddump could be made to dump data ?

Is that true that nanddump is not friendly with yaffs. Does it need any patches ?

Thanks and regards,

Chandru.

OOB corruption, GPIO unbuffered writes , settling time for writes .. etc loads of things come to mind

I have 2.4.19 kernel using YAFFS filesystem. I am seeing lots of ecc error messages and bad block occurrences when I run the dmesg command.

2.4.19 is the best reason too. It must be a very badly hacked code that must be running on it to support yaffs and 2.4.19
. I have seen 2.4.19 having been implemeted for a NAND device but its you standing on no grounds. If going for  2.6 is an option u have
chances of it working are high.

I tried to dump the contents of nand using nanddump. But I could only see a I/O error at end of first block.

nanddump uses the APi provided by the MTD layer and if nanddump uses a different api than the on present in the kernel , an IO error
i have noticed.

I tried to build latest NAND from the mtd site. Probably my MTD sub system doesn't support it. Some IOCTL's included in the latest version of nanddump

some nanddump work some don't .yes some changes are required.

Thanks and regards,

Chandru .
