IMO, grub is far better than xosl. It is also supported by the linux distributors.
Just boot into the installed linux system using the install cd. This is basically called "rescue" mode.
Once booted and you've chrooted to the install path you can execute the following command:
grub-install /dev/hda
Assuming that /dev/hda is your primary master hard drive and is IDE.
