I have an ati radeon x700 graphics card and I cannot use X/KDE out of
the box because ATI does not support linux... Is there any way I can
get some manner of generic driver to support my card? It really is the
only thing that keeps me from running gentoo instead of windows. I
have gentoo running on a little system I restored and keep running for
educational purposes but I desperately need more!

Thanks a bunch :)

There are ATI drivers in the kernel itself. Also, you can find linux
drivers on the ATI servers (though not opensource). I am working with
an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M right now using the kernel drivers. You
probably just need to tweak your x config files. Try using xorgconfig
to get a basic working xorg.conf file then use xorgcfg to be able to
tweak it.

Hope this helps =]
