chroot /mnt/gentoo/ /bin/bash
chroot: cannot run command /bin/bash: No such file or directory

That is what I get. bash is there and it is executable. Any tips?

I forgot to mention I am running the chroot command from another
machine after sshing into my gentoo box if it matters.

Not sure, but you might try 'chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash'. Note the
lack of a trailing slash after '/mnt/gentoo'. I can't remember if
chroot dislikes trailing slashes.

That is correct. chroot WILL NOT WORK if the target root directory has
a trailing slash.

First, make sure /mnt/gentoo/bin/bash exists. If not, you probably need to
re-extract your stage tarball (it should be in there).
